North New Jersey Democratic Socialists of America

Statement on Recent Events in New York

October 12th 2026

North New Jersey DSA condemns the ICE shooting and police violence unleashed in Marble Hill. We echo the calls from Darializa Avila Chevalier, NYC-DSA endorsed electeds & candidates, and NYC-DSA for Mayor Zohran Mamdani to abolish the NYPD Strategic Response Group (SRG) and immediately fire Commissioner Jessica Tisch. Furthermore, we reiterate the position of NYC-PYM and call on Mayor Mamdani to do everything in his power to cease the arms transfers at JFK airport and the sale of occupied Palestinian land occurring in New York City.

North NJ DSA reaffirms our commitment to the struggle for Palestinian liberation and against Zionism and imperialism, as outlined in our resolutions to make DSA an Anti-Zionist Organization in Principle and Praxis. We reaffirm our commitment to ‘al-Thawabit’, the principles originally set by the Palestinian National Council in 1977 and repeatedly reaffirmed since, which are the Palestinian people’s right to resistance, the Palestinian right to self-determination, the recognition of Jerusalem as the capital of Palestine, and the right of Palestinian refugees to return to their homeland from the river to the sea.

Finally, we reaffirm the right of the North New Jersey YDSA chapters to freely organize in solidarity with the Palestinian liberation movement and to support their endeavors in the face of intense campus repression.
