In New Jersey, history is made by mass movements of working class people. From the Paterson Silk Strike of 1913 to the Newark Rebellion of 1967, to mass mobilizations for justice this decade, North NJ DSA is building on the legacy of working-class organizing from the bottom up. North New Jersey DSA is a chapter of the Democratic Socialists of America. We believe that working people should run both the economy and society democratically to meet human needs, not to make profits for a few. We use a variety of tactics, from legislative to direct action, to fight for reforms that empower working people.
David Sabry Guirgis is a social worker, organizer, and democratic socialist with lifelong roots in Jersey City. Now he’s running for Hudson County Commissioner in District 4 to deliver free community college for all, build green social housing, deliver universal childcare on county-owned land, and audit everything to end county corruption.
Elizabeth is a working class town. For 30 years it’s been home to an ICE jail that imprisons our noncitizen neighbors. Let’s win local voting rights for youth and noncitizens to deepen our democracy. For 30 years it’s also had one of the strongest rent control laws in the state. Let’s bring back the $20 limit on rent hikes, and keep Elizabeth affordable!
ICE is back on their bullshit again! After we stopped Majestic Realty from selling a warehouse in Hutchins, TX, Roxbury, NJ officials reported that Dalfen Industrial has completed the sale of another warehouse to DHS for the purpose of caging our immigrant neighbors. However, no public documentation backs up this report, so there might still be time to terminate this sale before it’s too late. Dalfen, which is headquartered in Dallas, TX, claims to be a “responsible member of the community,” but this sale is anything but responsible.
